Pupil Progress

Almost all pupils at Newlands have an Education, Health and Care Plan (known in Rochdale as 'My Plan').  Very occasionally pupils come to our school without an EHCP, these children will receive an assessment to put an EHCP in place. Newlands has been working with the Local Authority over the last 3 years to transfer pupils' Statement of SEN' into EHCPs.

All pupils enter and leave the school with attainments that are significantly below the National Expectations for their age.

Progress at Newlands is measured in different ways. This includes Pre-National Curriculum (P Level) scores  and a Continuum of Skills Development.  We document pupil progress in developing personal and social skills too, and, linked to our process of school improvement, are making further changes to how we do this in 2018-19. This includes measuring pupil progress in relation to how their responses and engagement develops.

Judgements about pupil progress are based on a range of information.  We look at pupils' P Level progress, and how well they have gained subject-related and personal skills.  We also consider their changing responses to social situations and their level of engagement with different learning experiences and opportunities.  In following our School Mission statement, we look at each child as an individual. We recognise that what may be a small amount of progress for one child may represent a huge 'step' for another.

Pupils making expected progress (and above this) for 2017-18 are noted below.
