Numicon Advocate Day - 10 Nov

Pupil Progress

All pupils at Newlands have either an Education, Health and Care Plan (known in Rochdale as 'My Plan')  or a Statement of Special Educational Needs.  Most pupils have an EHCP already as we have been converting Statements into 'My Plans' for the last two years. Those with a Statement of SEN (only a very small number of pupils) will be supported through a transfer process during 2017-18 to convert this into an EHCP.

Sometimes pupils come to our school without a Statement or EHCP, these children will receive an assessment to put an EHCP in place.

All pupils enter and leave the school with attainments that are significantly below the National Expectations for their age.

Progress at Newlands is measured in different ways. This includes Pre-National Curriculum (P Level) scores (informed by PIVATS) and a Continuum of Skills Development.  We work to document pupil progress in relation to children's personal skills too, and, linked to our process of school improvement, are making further changes to how we do this in 2017-18.

Judgements about pupil progress are based on a range of information.  We look at pupils' P Level progress, and how well they have gained subject-related and personal skills.  We also consider their changing responses to social situations and their level of engagement with different learning experiences and opportunities.  In following our School Mission statement, we look at each child as an individual. We recognise that what may be a small amount of progress for one child may represent a huge 'step' for another.

Pupils making expected progress (and above this) for 2016-17 are noted below.
