Home- School Liaison
Excellent communication between home and school is considered essential. We seek to share information and knowledge that will support children, families and school staff.
Classes have home/school books which staff use on a regular basis. These are now used in a combined approach utilising Class emails
for example
Redclass@newlands.rochdale.sch.uk, Blueclass@rochdale.sch.uk etc
This is an effective way of sharing information and celebrating successes at school and at home. We welcome regular comments from parents and hope that you will engage in this communication with us.
We ask that any concerns or urgent queries are raised either face to face or using phone calls.
Whilst we have found the introduction of Class emails useful, they have their difficulties too. Staff have multiple tasks to complete once the children have gone home and many have their own young families at home. For these reasons we ask that emails are not used to have online conversations into the evening and advise our staff the same. We pride ourselves on our ability to build and maintain very positive relationships with school families and hope that you will feel comfortable to address any queries and anxieties via meetings, phone calls and face to face interactions.
To celebrate children's achievements at home we also have our Home Star Boards and Awards.
We have a ‘Home Star Award Board’ in each class for us to display special events in your child’s home life. We ask families to complete these and send them into school. These provide a lovely display of achievements and events which happen at evenings or weekends. They don’t need to be 'amazing feats', just something significant or special to your child. So it may be that ‘Matthew rode his bike by himself’ or ‘Sobehah used a cup today'’. We have seen how receiving awards from home can be a boost to their self-esteem and confidence and show them that home events are truly important.
Parents are very welcome to bring their child to school and to collect them at the end of the day. Alternatively, transport is provided by the local authority in most cases (see Transport section for further information).
Parents /carers are welcome to telephone school if they are concerned about their child in any way. We are sure you will understand that we cannot always discuss matters during lesson times, but will return your call at an appropriate time. Our office staff are very helpful and friendly! You are also able to speak to class staff briefly at the start and end of the school day.
