Money

April 24

During our maths session this week, Indigo Class have be working with money. We have been asked to recognise and name different British coins and have played games to make sure we know the differences between the ways coins look and that we can recognise coins on both sides.

An Indigo Class pet shop was also set up and children were given money, asked to select the pet or equipment they wanted to buy and exchange the correct coin / coins for their item. If they did not have the correct money, children were asked to note which change they should receive.

Excellent work Indigo Class

Well done

Favourite Things (Superheroes)

February 2024

Indigo Class have had a fun and busy first half term of 2024. Our topic has been ‘Favourite Things’ and we have chosen to focus on ‘Superheroes’. During Maths sessions, we have been collecting and displaying data, asking questions such as ‘Who is your favourite character from Sonic?’ and ‘Who is your favourite hero from Marvel?’. During English sessions, we have read sensory stories such as ‘Superworm’ and ‘Busy People – Doctors’, described our favourite superheroes, created and written about our own superheroes and written comic strips. During PE, we have focused on dance and created a group ‘Superhero’ sequence.

Our Science topic this half term has been rocks and we have really enjoyed it. We have learned the names of different types of rock and how they were formed, made edible sedimentary rock, considered fossils and how they were formed, dug for fossils and gems and visited Manchester Museum, where we saw wonderful examples of special rocks and fossils.

Marvellous Maths

November 2023

During maths this week, the children in Indigo Class have been working on understanding number. We have been identifying numerals to 50, sorting, counting and comparing and learning about place value with numbers up to 10,000. Some of this work has been very tricky but, as always, the children have worked so hard and smashed it! Well done Indigo Class!

Autumn 1

October 2023

Our topic in Indigo Class this half term has been ‘Grand Designs’: We thought about some things that are the same for all houses in England and labelled a diagram before considering how houses differ. We learned the names for different types of homes, spotted each type when out on our bus visits and took tallies to see which home was the most popular on our local area. We also considered possible hazards in the home, described our own bedrooms and went to B&Q to find inspiration for a future dream bedroom.

We have also focussed on 2D and 3D shapes in maths, worked on materials and their properties in science and designed and made our own omelettes, pizzas, pasta salads and stir fries in food technology.

The children in Indigo had an amazing first half term and we are proud of how hard each person has worked. it is wonderful to see how responsible and independent the children are we love that existing friendships have been maintained and new friendships have formed and grown.

We look forward to next half term ; - )
