Our Learning
Autumn term
November 2025
Horse Chestnut Class have been learning about Money in Maths. We have been looking at different coins and exchanging them for different items, we have been singing 5 currant buns and have enjoyed engaging with this Number rhyme. In Maths we have also been looking at Numbers and the Number system. We have been touch counting items, ordering numbers from 1-10 and some of us 1-20!
In Science we have been exploring different Materials and we have used communication boards to help with our understanding of this! We have looked at what items are made of and even use descriptive words to describe that material. We really enjoyed the lesson where we could explore transparent cellophane with our eyes and torches!
In History we have been exploring Old and New toys. We have loaned a box from touchstones and explored different toys from the past such as - wooden stilts, skipping ropes, diablos, spinning tops and much more. We have then explored new toys such as iPads, remote control cars and duplo.
In Art we have been focusing on Colours and Colour mixing. We have been learning the Primary colours and mixing them together to make Secondary colours!
Settling In
September 2025
Horse Chestnut Class have had a fantastic start to the year! We have been seeing lots of friendships form and have settled well into our classroom routine. Lots of fun and productive learning has already been happening in Horse Chestnut as you can see we have been very busy!
In English we have been focusing on the story – Cinderella. The children have enjoyed dressing up and role playing with different items, we have been making short sentences using colourful semantics, we have started to sequence the story using visuals and we have been mark making in glitter trays with a “magic wand.”
In Maths we have been learning to recognise and name 3D shapes and we have been building towers with different 3D blocks. We have also been looking at making different patterns using different items and we have been matching identical items too - such as socks!
In PE we have enjoyed exploring different obstacle courses that includes different PE equipment such as balancing beams, stepping stones, stairs, agility tables and benches. We have observed all children becoming more confident when moving around the obstacle course and attempting to jump and land safely with adult support.
